Island Bar At Birmingham

Island Bar opened its doors to the masses in September 2006. Determined not to be a typical cocktail bar, the team behind Island set it up on DIY ethics determined to bring a lot of soul and no pretension to the Birmingham nightlife scene, becoming a hub for music and drink lovers alike.

We’ve taken away all the stuffy nonsense of traditional cocktail bars and made the focus all about the drinks. We’re proud of our range of drinks and the expertise of our staff, we think you will be too. We were voted one of the top 50 bars in the UK by the Independent on Sunday and have one of the West Midlands’ largest collections of rum – over 70 at last count.

Weekends we like to up the tempo with DJs on Friday and Saturday nights downstairs. Our upstairs function room is a Birmingham first – a unique Tiki bar with an 80 person capacity which we open up for DJ nights and hire out for private functions (Sunday to Thursday).

Our general manager, Ed Shawcross, has many years experience in the hospitality industry working around the world, competing in numerous cocktail competitions and generally being awesome (he told us to say that). Joining him is our new assistant manager, Simon Gilligan, or Gill as he’s affectionately known. He brings a wealth of well-travelled experience from some of the busiest bars and restaurants in exotic locations such as Melbourne and Leicester. There’s always one of them on the bar and they welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have. They also make some damn good drinks, so test them out!

With Ed and Gill’s crack-team of highly-skilled bartenders we aim to bring you the best in customer service with quality drinks served in a relaxed and unpretentious environment. And we’re happy to share our knowledge at one of our cocktail masterclasses.

Join us down at Island soon!
